By including these passages, we hope to break down the stigma and fear surrounding sexuality to give people an understanding of the reverence, power and transformation that's available to them when incorporating sexuality in their learning experiences.

Understanding the language of the bodymindSexuality connects us to our innermost feelings about ourselves. Here is our ability to create new life, and in so doing to share of ourselves with another through sex and procreation. Problems in this area are a manifestation of inner conflicts and confusions, difficulties in communication, in sharing, in being at peace with ourselves and with our intimate other, in being free and able to trust, in being respectful and considerate.
Sexual energy is one of the most powerful expressions in the whole bodymind .... from birth to maturity. Through this energy we can dissolve the ego, give birth to new understandings and inner freedoms. It is a place for tremendous transformation. It is an energy that enables people to unite and merge, thereby releasing egos and attaining a true oneness. It is a way of expressing our deepest feelings of love and care for one another. It is also a means to work with and resolve conflicts that are holding us back from true growth. Throughout the ages sexual energy has been misused and abused, particularly when its higher potential is ignored in favour of purely sensual indulgence without real feeling, for exertion and manipulation of power, and perversion. When the deeper purpose and beauty of sexual energy is denied in this way it can turn inwards on us and implode, as it has no means of finding true fulfilment in expression. Learning New Attachment PatternsOur capacity for healthy loving relationships is profoundly affected by trauma, oppression and neglect. Our experiences in relationships shape our physiology, alter the functioning of our autonomic nervous system, and even have an impact on our genes.
Love is crucial to our survival. The care of others is what creates enough safety for our bodies, brains and nervous systems to evolve into somewhat independent, self-regulating systems. Our nervous systems are always regulated by participation in social groups. Our autonomic nervous systems are continually responding to each other, so that we become calmer by being in calm connection with another person, and more bold in a courageous group. We are affected by how the people around us breathe, eat, play, express themselves sexually, and whether they feel happiness or loneliness. We build nervous system capacity to feel deeply and regulate our autonomic states through social relationships with others. Relationships help us build flexibility and resilience when they support excitement, novelty and adventure while providing a path back to safety.
